Nitrofurantoin side effects and how to avoid them
Nitrofurantoin
Anemia, megaloblastic (caused by low levels of folic acid in the body) or
Children and infants 1 month of age and older—Dose is based on body weight and must be determined by your doctor
Precautions Before taking nitrofurantoin , tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or if you have any other Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur: sores, ulcers, or white spots on the lips or in the mouth
The risk or severity of methemoglobinemia can be increased when Nitrofurantoin is combined with Propoxycaine

Serious reactions = hypertension, hyperkalemia, thrombocytopenia, leukopenia, neutropenia, immunosuppression, nephrotoxicity, neurotoxicity, seizures, and opportunistic infections
It is taken 2 to 4 times a day with food
Severe infections may need a higher dose of 100mg taken as standard tablets or capsules, 4 times a day
Adverse effects are not common at usual dosages, but nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea can develop; CNS disorders have occurred, and polyneuropathy is a serious effect seen in people
